The Art of Achieving the Perfect Winged Eyeliner

A winged eyeliner is a timeless makeup technique that enhances your eyes by extending the liner outward at the outer corner, creating a sleek and elegant wing-like shape. Whether you prefer a subtle flick or an Amy Winehouse-inspired wing, mastering the art of a winged liner is easier than you think, especially with the right product.

Winged Eyeliner vs. Cat Eye: What's the Difference?

While the two styles are similar, there are key differences: winged eyeliner extends the liner outward, creating a sharp flick at the outer corner. It's versatile and works for both classic and bold looks, depending on the length of the wing. A cat eye takes it a step further by thickening the liner along the lash line and sometimes extending it into the inner corner for a dramatic, elongated shape. This is why the cat eye is typically used in a smokey eye makeup look, as you can buff out the eyeliner on your waterline. No matter your preferred style, the Caviar Tightline Eyeliner gives you the precision and flexibility to create both looks effortlessly. Once set, it stays in place all day—no smudging, no fading.

How to Create the Perfect Winged Eyeliner

No need to worry if you have hooded or monolid eyes, this technique works for all eye shapes. Follow these steps to achieve a flawless winged eyeliner look:

  1. Start with a Guide: Place a small dot at the outer corner of your eye where you want your wing to start.
  2. Drag It Out: Gently drag the dot outward up to where you want it to end, angling it slightly upward for a lifting effect.
  3. Connect the Wing: Connect the wing to your lash line by drawing a thin line from the tip of the wing back toward your eyelid.
  4. Define the Lash Line: Drag the eyeliner along your lashes, keeping the line as close to your lash line as possible. Drag the liner from the outer corner toward the inner corner for a smooth, connected look.
  5. Perfect the Shape: Use a Flat Eye Liner Brush to refine and sharpen the wing's point.

Pro Tip: In case of smudging, use a small amount of concealer and the Smudge Brush to conceal any smudges and sharpen the wing even further.
